I'm Like the Bluebird

Encores! (NY) persents Anyone Can Whistle at the City Center Mainstage Apr 8 - 11, 2010!
The production stars Raúl Esparza, Sutton Foster and Donna Murphy. It is directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw.

"Stephen Sondheim’s and Arthur Laurents’ experimental mid-‘60s satire of any and every target on the American cultural scene of the moment – conformity, psychology, race relations, greed, religion, politics – divided the critics, thrilled the emerging counter-culture, baffled the masses and closed quickly, becoming an instant legend that has grown over the years as Sondheim’s reputation has soared. The title song and “With So Little to Be Sure Of” have survived as cabaret classics, but the rarely heard complete score is a riot of jazzy, show-biz razzmatazz, waltzes, gospel numbers and Broadway pastiche, as full of variety and surprise as the show that gave it birth"-

But Jimmy want more, jimmy want more, jimmy want, jimmy want, jimmy want more

GO SEE DREAMGIRLS @ THE AHMANSON THEATRE!!This past Tuesday night I attended the opening night performance of Dreamgirls at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. The house was packed, not a single seat open. The audience was more than ecstatic about how much the enjoyed each number; often giving a standing ovation to most numbers.
Dreamgirls cinderalle story of an up-and-coming 1960s girl group and their jourby through their success and tribulations of their new found fame. The original 1981 Broadway production won six Tony Awards. It was adapted into a motion picture by DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures in 2006, staring Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles, Anika Noni Rose, Eddie Murphy, and Jamie Foxx.

A new production of Dreamgirls is directed/choreographed by Robert Longbottom. Cast includes Moya Angela as Effie White, Syesha Mercado as Deena Jones, Adrienne Warren as Lorrell Robinson, and Margaret Hoffman as Michelle Morris, Chaz Lamar Shepherd as Curtis Taylor, Jr., Chester Gregory as James "Thunder" Early, Trevon Davis as C.C. White, Milton Craig Nealy as Marty Madison. I must say that the stand out performance came from Chester Gregory as James “Thunder” Early. Every time he came on stage the audience went wild! He stole every scene he was in.

On hand for opening night was the original Dreamgirls Loretta Devine, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jennifer Holliday. Dreamgirls plays at the Ahmanson Theatre through April 4th so Hurry and get your tickets!! Click Here for Ticket Info!
