Passing Phase

Did you miss the hit musical Passing Strange while it was on Broadway? Or have you never heard about this Tony Award winning Best Book for a musical?

Well you in luck PBS' "Great Performances" will air Spike Lee's film adaptation of PASSING STRANGE in 2010. This film had its New York premiere this past January, when it played the Tribeca Film festival. I can not wait to see it Lee's verison of it on TV. Hopefully this production will end up on DVD for all to enjoy.

Passing Strange is about a young black musician's journey to Amsterdam in order to rebel against his mother and his upbringing in a church-going, middle-class, late 1970s South Central Los Angeles neighborhood in order to find "the real". With his "passing" from place to place and from lover to lover, the young musician moves through a number of musical styles from a background of gospel to punk, and then blues, jazz, and rock, until he finds his home.
