The Goodbye Song

Person to Watch:Meet Mr.JOE ICONIS.
Joe is a graduate of NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program and has won such awards as the Ed Kleban Award, and a Jonathan Larson Award, a Backstage Bistro Award.Joe is the author of THE BLACK SUITS (music and lyrics by Joe, book by Joe and Robert Maddock; SPF @ The Public Theater), ReWRITE (Urban Stages), THE PLANT THAT ATE DIRTY SOCKS (Lucille Lortel Theater), THINGS TO RUIN: the Songs of Joe Iconis (The Zipper). Other projects include PLASTIC! and TRIUMPHANT BABY! (both with Robert Maddock). THE JOE ICONIS ROCK AND ROLL JAMBOREE has played to sold out crowds at venues all over the city, including Joe's Pub, The Laurie Beechman Theater, and Ars Nova.

What I like about his work is that he is fun, funny, intelligent, and current. His music and lyrics speak about this generation's zeitgeist and musical taste (folk meets indie meets rock-n-roll a mix of so many influences). I think he appeals to the younger crowd who do not normally attend traditional theatre. I believe he is our next Lin-Manuel Miranda or Jonthan Larson. I can not wait to see his work on Broadway! Joe states on his webpage that he "proudly rips off from The Ramones, Dolly Parton, Weezer, The Rolling Stones, and many of his other idols. He is greatly inspired by Robert Altman movies, Dunkin Donuts coffee, and pornography." He just finished a show in NYC of his work called THINGS TO RUIN @ Second Stage Theater in May. Check out his MYSPACE page for info on upcoming shows. The sad part is that he mainly does show on the east coast only. JOE if you read this please do a show in Los Angeles!
Here are three video's of his work(my favorite is the goodbye song):
