According to Variety, Universal Pictures will bring the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "In the Heights" to the bigscreen! Kenny Ortega is set to direct the film adaptation, known recently for the "This Is It" movie of the rehearsals for Michael Jackson’s final concert.

It is expected that Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise his starring role as Usnavi (Miranda also wrote the lyrics and music to the play). In The Heights' book writer, Quiara Alegria Hudes, is set to write the script. Meryl Poster will produce. along side the stage musicals producers Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller and Jill Furman Willis.Ortega told Variety that he has "seen the show six times on Broadway since it opened, several times when Lin played the lead role.
